NTT DATA to Deploy 900 MW of Bloom Energy Fuel Cells for Global Data Centers

The systems will provide onsite primary power as AI-driven data center demand grows and grid electricity becomes harder to secure.

NTT Global Data Centers plans to deploy 900 megawatts (MW) of onsite fuel cell power across multiple data center projects worldwide under an agreement with Bloom Energy.

Initial shipments are expected to begin in 2027. The deployment will use Bloom Energy's fuel cell technology to provide primary power for data center facilities as demand for AI infrastructure increases and access to grid electricity becomes a growing constraint.

The agreement represents Bloom Energy's largest international project to date. The companies said the relationship is designed to expand across NTT DATA's global data center portfolio, potentially reaching gigawatt scale.

The fuel cell systems generate electricity without combustion and are designed to operate with low local air emissions, minimal water consumption and limited noise. Their modular configuration also allows capacity to be deployed in phases alongside data center construction.

"Power availability has become one of the defining factors in delivering capacity when and where it's needed," said Doug Adams, CEO of NTT Global Data Centers. He said the onsite systems will allow the company to bring additional capacity online alongside construction while addressing environmental considerations in the communities where it operates.

Bloom Energy Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer Aman Joshi said the systems are intended to support data center power requirements as AI computing expands beyond large-scale AI facilities into edge and inference applications.
