Generac to Supply Gas Generators in Microgrid Alliance

Sept. 24, 2021
The development agreement covers a five-year span.

Microgrid specialist Enchanted Rock and global energy technology supplier Generac Power Systems, Inc. have formed an alliance that aims to ensure a scalable supply for microgrid growth plans.

Under the five-year development agreement, Generac will build and supply its natural gas generators and control systems in conjunction with Enchanted Rock’s ongoing efforts to design, build, operate, and maintain ultra-low emissions microgrids for commercial, industrial, and government customers. In addition to providing such entities with backup power, Enchanted Rock’s Dual Purpose Microgrids supply electric grid operators with critical grid stability services that accelerate wind and solar power adoption without sacrificing system reliability, Generac noted.

“We are excited to have Generac as a key technology partner as we continue our mission to develop and deploy advanced power resiliency systems across the United States,” remarked Enchanted Rock Chief Technology Officer Ian Blakely. “As we continue to grow with our direct customers and utility partners across new geographies, expanding our supply chain with a market leader such as Generac helps us in our goal to meet our quality, price, and performance standards.”

Generac noted the Enchanted Rock deal will rely on its rich-burn gaseous engine technology and newly acquired Deep Sea Electronics control systems.

“Natural gas-fueled generators provide a reliable and cleaner source of power that ideally fits this business model,” commented Cory Honl, Generac Power Systems’ senior director for global industrial solutions. “By leveraging and integrating Generac’s expertise into Enchanted Rock’s generator design, we can deliver the most reliable, robust, and flexible product for use in a large array of applications.”

Generac will manufacture the new generators in Oshkosh, Wis. The company added the units will feature Enchanted Rock’s patented quiet design and compact footprint and will be deployed in various microgrid applications.

“Generac and Enchanted Rock are dedicated to innovation and creating a disruptive force in the marketplace,” said Jamie Smith, vice president of sales with Generac Power Systems. “We both believe in providing peace of mind to our customers as well as worry-free protection from extended grid outages. These core beliefs led us to this mutually beneficial partnership to help strengthen our commitment to supplying the highest quality power generation products available.”
