Hertz buying 65,000 EVs from Polestar for Europe, North America and Australia
Car rental firm Hertz has partnered with Swedish premium electric performance car maker Polestar to purchase up to 65,000 electric vehicles over five years, which will be available in Europe from Spring 2022 and in North America and Australia from late 2022.
For Hertz, the partnership builds on its announcement to offer a large EV rental fleet in North America and is part of its commitment to electrification, shared-mobility and a digital-first customer experience.
“Today's partnership with Polestar further builds on our ambition to become a leading participant in the modern mobility ecosystem and doing so as an environmentally-forward company," Hertz CEO Stephen Scherr said. "By working with EV industry leaders like Polestar, we can help accelerate the adoption of electrification while providing renters, corporate customers and rideshare partners a premium EV product, exceptional experience and lower carbon footprint."
Hertz will make the fleet available to its business and leisure customers and extend EVs to rideshare drivers. The initial order will be of the Polestar 2 EV, which features a Scandinavian design, and the infotainment system powered by Android Automotive OS.

Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath added, “The partnership with a global pioneer like Hertz will bring the amazing experience of driving an electric car to a wider audience, satisfying a broad variety of our mutual customers' short- and longer-term mobility requirements. For many of them it may be the first time they have driven an EV, and it will be a Polestar."
