Alexander Dennis, an NFI Group subsidiary, has received an order for 200 Enviro400 double deck buses from transport group Stagecoach. This is the UK bus industry’s largest single order since 2019.

The low-emission buses for the Stagecoach order will be built in Britain and feature Alexander Dennis’s SmartPack technology utilizing diesel more efficiently. Delivery of those buses is expected in 2023 and used across England. Stagecoach will remove the older buses from its fleet and replace those with these low-emission models.

“These new double deck buses will complement the investment we are already making with our electric buses to modernize our fleet in some of Britain’s major towns and cities, enabling reduced pollution and meaning customers can benefit from more comfortable, quieter and newer vehicles on their everyday journeys,” said Sam Greer, Engineering Director, Stagecoach. “We look forward to working with Alexander Dennis to get our new buses into service starting early next year.”

Paul Davies, President & Managing Director, Alexander Dennis, explained, “Our low-emission Enviro400 is a tried and tested product that combines efficiency with high passenger capacity. Robust and easy to maintain, the 200 new buses will integrate seamlessly into Stagecoach’s fleet.”

Alexander Dennis offers single and double deck vehicles under the brands of Alexander Dennis and Plaxton, and has more than 31,000 vehicles in service in the UK, Europe, Hong Kong, Singapore, New Zealand, Mexico, Canada, and the United States.

Enviro400 engines are made by Cummins.
