Food and foodservice distribution firm Performance Food Group (PFG) has teamed up with Carrier Transicold, Great Dane and Navistar to introduce a commercial evaluation program utilizing all-electric refrigeration technology on a battery-electric truck for the distribution of refrigerated and frozen food in a sustainable, direct-emissions-free manner.
Navistar is a commercial truck manufacturer, Great Dane is a manufacturer of high-performance commercial transportation equipment, while Carrier Transicold is a provider of land transport refrigeration solutions.
The project with Performance Food Group includes Carrier Transicold’s Supra eCool electric truck refrigeration unit, an International eMV Series battery-electric truck with a factory-installed ePower electrical system and a 22-foot Alpine S-Series insulated body by Great Dane.

According to PFG, the initiative will serve its operations in California and support its sustainability initiatives. It will also help comply with new regulations requiring the adoption of zero-direct emission truck refrigeration technologies in California, the company adds.

PFG notes that control interface commonalities between the traditional Supra diesel units it uses and the Supra eCool unit will help its drivers transition to all-electric refrigeration.
