Nikola Corporation has announced a strategic supply agreement with hydrogen supplier BayoTech. Under the agreement, over the next five years, BayoTech will purchase up to 50 Nikola Class 8 fuel cell electric vehicles, 12 of which will be delivered in 2023 and 2024. The trucks will be paired with BayoTech's bulk hydrogen transport trailer, which will deliver low-carbon hydrogen to customers at BayoTech's hydrogen production hubs.

"Partnering with forward-looking companies like Nikola allows us to accelerate the deployment of our hydrogen hub network and stimulate the growth of the hydrogen ecosystem."
Meanwhile, Nikola, as a hydrogen offtake customer, will take delivery of low-carbon hydrogen produced by BayoTech in Missouri this year and in California in 2024. The company will also buy up to ten BayoTech HyFill™ transport trailers, which move hydrogen from production sites to refueling stations for fuel cell electric vehicle fleets.
Nikola’s President and CEO said BayoTech’s equipment would "play an important part in supporting the adoption of Nikola's Class 8 fuel cell electric zero-emission trucks."
The partnership comes a month after Nikola announced restructuring plans that included terminating its previous partnership with Italian truck maker Iveco and laying off 270 employees, mostly in Europe. The new agreement with BayoTech represents the company making good on its commitment to reprioritize business that focuses on the North American market. Production of the hydrogen fuel cell trucks was paused at its Coolidge, Arizona plant in May, although it is expected to resume sometime this month.
