Mobis, the parts and services arm of Hyundai Motor, has secured a contract with Volkswagen AG to supply an order of electric vehicle components to the company, including its Battery System Assembly (BSA), a key component in Volkswagen’s next-generation EV platform.

A BSA combines a battery pack with a battery management system and other components to ensure the safe and efficient operation of an EV’s battery. The high-capacity, high-efficiency BSA has an influence on the overall quality and performance of an EV.

To help fulfill the BSA order, Mobis is establishing a new production base near an automobile plant in Spain and is setting up new EV hubs in the United States and Indonesia. Currently, Mobis operates BSA production lines in Korea and the Czech Republic.

These expansion efforts are due in part to Mobis’ prediction that this order with Volkswagen will generate additional EV component orders from other companies in the global market as they look to transition to producing larger quantities of EVs.
