Formula E, the motorsport championship for electric cars, has signed a multi-year agreement with Aggreko to use its sustainable technology at Formula E events, helping the series reduce its emissions by 45% by 2030.
To start, Aggreko will provide biofuel generators, solar arrays, and a variety of battery technologies to ensure the events are powered with renewable energy. Aggreko will also supply six 300kVA batteries to charge all Formula E cars. Each battery can charge four race cars simultaneously – the equivalent of charging 84,000 cell phones.
The batteries will be supported by Stage V Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) powered generators, which emit 90% less carbon dioxide and reduce emissions, nitrogen, and overall HVO consumption compared to diesel.
In addition, select tracks will receive solar arrays at the trackside to support the battery systems.
“It is vital to us in not just having the correct power to deliver our unique events, but done so in the most sustainable methods possible… so we’re thrilled to have [Aggreko] on board as an Official Provider of the championship,” said Tiziana di Gioia, Chief Revenue Officer at Formula E.
