ChargePoint and Dabaja Brothers Launch New EV Charging Stations in Metro Detroit
EV charging infrastructure developer ChargePoint has expanded its fast charging network of new stations into the heart of Big Auto.
The company has unveiled a new ultra-fast EC charging site in Canton, Michigan which is owned and operated by metro-Detroit real estate firm Dabaja Brothers Development Group. This first charging station will be followed by new ChargePoint and Dabaja Brothers collaborations in Dearborn and Lavonia.
“We started this project because we saw a gap in our community—there was almost nowhere to charge an EV in Canton, and a similar lack of charging across metro Detroit,” said Yousef Dabaja, Owner/Operator at Dabaja Brothers Development Group, in a statement. “Together with ChargePoint, we are bringing fast, reliable charging to the community, better enabling us to serve all of our customers.”
Dabaja Brothers plans to deploy more than 40 ports across its locations, focusing near where consumers shop, dine and visit local attractions. Each site will feature ChargePoint Express Plus fast charging stations. All stations will be managed by the new ChargePoint Platform.
Earlier this year, ChargePoint and global eenergy management firm Eaton detailed the beginnings of their collaboration to unite both on-site power for charging infrastructure as well as intelligent, AI-ready power management.
Chargepoint has worked itself into position as an “end-to-end enabler” of the complete EV charging ecosystem. This will include direct-current (DC) charging and vehicle-to-everything (V2X) capabilities.
It makes sense on multiple levels, experts say. The points of distributed generation, such as solar and battery storage, are DC, while the points of use are also DC.
ChargePoint CEO Rick Wilmer said the discussions with Eaton on a better and more energy-efficient path forward to DC and V2X go back years and now aim forward by decades.
“We’re integrating charging in a more technologically advanced way with the grid and with vehicles, and by doing so we can unlock all kinds of value,” Wilmer said at RE+ in Las Vegas this September.
