Massachusetts Port Authority Selects Renewable Diesel to Fuel Airport Vehicles
The Massachusetts Port Authority is contracting Broco Energy to deliver more than one million gallons of renewable diesel under a first-of-its-kind energy deal for New England.
Broco Energy will supply renewable diesel to various functions of the Port Authority, also known as MassPort. Renewable diesel will power Logan Airport shuttle buses, maintenance vehicles and ground equipment, luggage carriers, generators, fire trucks and energy response units.
"We're honored to move from our pilot program into a full contract with Massport," said Robert Brown, President of Broco Energy, in a statement. "Our team has worked closely with Massport since early 2024 to prepare for this transition, investing in infrastructure upgrades, injection blending capabilities, and expanded fixed storage. This contract is a major achievement and a testament to the work we've put into advancing clean-energy adoption across New England."
The one-year contract covers an estimated 1.2 million gallons of renewable diesel, considered a more carbon-friendly alternative to fossil fuel diesel.
Broco Energy was founded 18 years ago by U.S. Navy Seabee veteran and Massachusetts Fire Captain Robert Brown. MassPort owns and operates Logan International Airport, Hanscom Field, Worcester Regional Airport, the Conley Terminal and other aviation and maritime facilities across the Port of Boston.
