The government of Monaco has awarded a €98 million contract to VINCI Construction to extend and modernize the Princess Grace Hospital in Monaco.

The contract involves the construction of a new 16-story building with a 6-level underground car park, covering 65,000 square meters of floor space. The plans will include the latest in energy efficiency tools and materials, according to the release.

VINCI Construction will use a Building Information Modelling system for the construction design and the works will complete by the end of 2025.

Additionally, the construction will adopt a bioclimatic design, which will contribute to delivering thermal comfort in the building. Bioclimatic design is defined as principles focused on making the building both a heat and cooling trap, depending on the outside weather.

The firm intends to obtain an NF HQE Très Performant certification for the building.

To reduce noise pollution, VINCI Construction will set up a dome, comprising 70 cables and 2,800 square meters of sound-absorbing sheets, during the construction phase.

In the U.S., commercial building emissions account for more than 30 percent of greenhouse gases released into the atmosphere.

The original hospital site dates back to the early years of the 20th Century. It was expanded and modernized multiple times, and later renamed for Princess Grace, the former actress Grace Kelly, who was killed in automobile accident nearly 40 years ago.
