Inland Empire will offer 280 MWh of battery storage connected to the PG&E grid. The batteries will be charged at times of low grid demand and discharged during periods of high demand.

Developer Strata Clean Energy, working with electric utility partner Pacific Gas & Electric, has completed the 70-MW Inland Empire Energy Storage project in Rialto, southern California.

Inland Empire will offer 280 MWh of battery storage connected to the California and PG&E grid. The batteries will be charged at times of low grid demand and discharged during periods of high demand.

“We are thrilled to celebrate the successful completion of the Inland Empire Energy Storage Project, a milestone that will support California’s transition to renewable energy and enhancement of grid reliability across the region,” said Bob Schaffeld, president of Strata Clean Energy, in a statement. “This project reflects our commitment to advancing energy storage solutions and delivering results that support a sustainable, renewable-powered grid.”

Inland Empire Energy Storage is one of nine utility-scale battery projects that PG&E sought approval for in a 2022 filing with California regulators. Interconnection between both the PG&E and Southern California Edison systems was achieved as the project was completed in October.
