Oil and gas giant ExxonMobil will use its carbon capture and storage system to move biogenic CO2 from AtmosClear’s project at the Port of Greater Baton Rouge in Louisiana.

AtmosClear BR selected ExxonMobile to provide CO2 transportation and permanent storage. The plan is to move and store up to 688,000 metric tons of biogenic CO2 per year.

The CO2 is generated at AtmosClear’s biomass energy site.

ExxonMobil's integrated system includes Class VI wells, existing pipelines, and advanced monitoring systems. It will enable CO2 transportation and storage for AtmosClear's carbon removal project, which will provide CDR credits for Microsoft and other customers.

"This agreement is a critical step toward delivering CDR credits to Microsoft under the Carbon Removal Unit Purchase Agreement we signed in March, one of the largest Carbon Dioxide Removal purchase agreements in history to date,” Fidelis Co-Founder and CEO, Dan Shapiro said. “By leveraging ExxonMobil's unmatched expertise and mature CCS systems, we can deliver high-integrity carbon removals with strong economic advantages through scalable, cost-efficient operations while ensuring the highest standards of safety and reliability."
