The Town of Bowdoinham in Maine selected clean energy firm Nexamp to subscribe to a nearby community solar farm to lower its electricity bills and enable its transition to clean energy.
The town will subscribe to Nexamp’s 5.3 MW solar farm in Madison, which has 10,000 solar panels. The energy generated at this solar farm is sufficient to power more than 750 homes. The town will subscribe to energy, enough to power five of its municipal buildings.
For the town, subscribing to a community solar farm was inferred as the best option as it involves no upfront costs, no installation, no risk and no long-term contracts. The subscription will help the town save up to 15% on its annual electricity costs and contribute to Maine’s goal of generating 80% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030.
Wendy Rose, Chairperson of the Community Development Advisory Committee expects the Selectboard to explore the installation of a solar array in the town in the future.
Nexamp Director of Community Solar Program Management Eric Misbach explained that the town, through this subscription, will realise measurable savings on energy expenses and added, “The town is taking a bold step in supporting clean energy development—making it possible for others to more easily access the many benefits of solar.”
