EDPR NA Distributed Generation LLC (EDPR NA DG) will install a 2 MW rooftop solar system on Lufthansa Technik Puerto Rico’s (LTPR) Aguadilla facility. The system will generate nearly 3 million kWh annually, providing more than 95% of the site's annual energy needs and reducing operating costs by at least $10 million.
“We are proud to see our vision of making LTPR run with renewable energy come to life. We are constantly looking into modern solutions which allow us to make our operations more sustainable,” said Dr. Alexander Feuersänger, Lufthansa Technik’s Board Chairman and Vice President of Operations Aircraft and Maintenance Services.
The project is part of a 21-year power purchase agreement (PPA) between the two companies, and it directly supports LTPR’s efforts to reduce its carbon footprint and increase its resiliency with clean power. Specifically, LTPR aims to improve resource efficiency by 25% and have 50% of its power come from renewable energy sources. The partnership with EDPR NA DG will also enable LTPR to expand the greening of its services in the aviation industry.
“EDPR NA DG admires Lufthansa Technik Puerto Rico’s dedication and leadership in creating a more sustainable aviation sector,” said EDPR NA DG CEO Gustavo Monteiro. “We are pleased to support Lufthansa Technik’s mission to decrease their carbon emissions by providing them with low-cost renewable energy solutions, whilst increasing resiliency in Puerto Rico’s energy grid.”
