The PPA will help avoid 40,000 tons of CO2 a year and help BERRY reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 25% by 2025

ACCIONA Energía has signed a five-year power purchase agreement with packaging manufacturer Berry Global Group, Inc. (BERRY) to cover 100% of its facilities’ electricity needs across Mexico with renewable energy. In total, ACCIONA Energía will provide up to 100,000 MWh annually, helping BERRY avoid 40,000 metric tons of CO2 each year and reach its goal of reducing absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 25% by 2025.

“We are firmly committed to expanding the number of renewable energy projects across our business each year to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and accelerate progress toward a net-zero future,” said Rodgers Greenawalt, Executive Vice President of Operations at BERRY. “In addition to being the lowest-cost option, this agreement inherently reduces our operational impacts and our customers’ supply-chain emissions while minimizing the cost and price fluctuation associated with fossil fuels.”

The renewable energy, comprised of 70% wind and 30% solar, will be supplied to BERRY’s San Luis Potosi, Cuautitlán Izcalli, Atlacomulco, and Tlanepantla sites. San Luis Potosi, BERRY’s largest site powered through this agreement, will consume nearly two-thirds of all the energy provided.

“The PPA with Berry is a further demonstration of ACCIONA Energía’s commitment to supporting decarbonization at the industrial level and the transition towards a sustainable, competitive, and efficient energy system,” said Javier Montes, Commercial Director at ACCIONA Energía.
