ACCIONA Energia has started construction on Forty Mile, a 280 MW wind farm in Forty Mile No. 8 County in Alberta, Canada. Forty Mile will be ACCIONA’s largest wind farm in North America, which already owns and operates four other wind farms totaling more than 180 MW of wind capacity throughout Canada.
Forty Mile, developed by Renewable Energy Systems Canada, Inc., will feature 49 Nordex turbines and has the potential to expand up to 400 MW in the future. The wind farm, slated for completion in Q1 2025, will provide 250 jobs during construction and will create 25 permanent jobs for local residents once operational.
The project is part of ACCIONA’s Social Impact Management program, which prioritizes reinvesting portions of its annual revenue to provide surrounding communities with education, wellness, and environmental stewardship programs. The company has also been working closely with government officials and landowners to ensure they are maximizing the positive impacts of the project on the community.
