TotalEnergies and Air Products have signed a 15-year agreement for the supply of 70,000 tons of green hydrogen annually starting in 2030 in Europe. This decision follows shortly after TotalEnergies called for tenders for the supply of 500,000 tons per year of green hydrogen to decarbonize the company's European refineries.
Under this agreement, Air Products will deliver hydrogen from its global supply network directly to TotalEnergies' Northern European refineries, including six refineries and two biorefineries. This hydrogen delivery will avoid nearly 700,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions each year and represents progress on TotalEnergies' objective of reducing net greenhouse gas emissions from its oil and gas operations by 40% by 2030.
"We always believed that if we made clean hydrogen available at a commercial scale, the demand would be there. This contract validates our long-term strategy. Clearly, the demand is here, and it will grow significantly as we move forward, playing an essential role in decarbonizing heavy industry and other sectors," said Seifi Ghasemi, Chairman, President, and CEO of Air Products.
Additionally, TotalEnergies and Air Products have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) and an initial Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for the supply of 150 MW of renewable power produced at a solar project in Texas. The companies will also look at further PPA opportunities in the UK, Poland, and France.
