Altus Power has connected two operational solar projects in Colorado, totaling 2.5 MW, that will provide on-site and power resiliency for numerous public entities in the city of Pueblo.
The clean electric power generated by the ground-mounted systems will benefit local municipalities, including the City of Pueblo, Pueblo Community College and the Pueblo County School District, through the Altus Power Community Solar program, part of the Black Hills Energy Colorado community solar program.
It will also help several local government, educational and corporate enterprises, including the City of Pueblo, Posada Pueblo emergency shelter, Pueblo Community College, Pueblo County School District 70 and Premier Members Credit Union, offsetting the equivalent of nearly 54,462 metric tons of carbon emissions over the life of the project.
Altus Power’s nationwide community program has more than 25,000 subscribers. The subscriptions help finance the project, and subscribers receive a credit on their electricity bills for the renewable power put into the grid.
Many clean energy advocates see community solar as a more cost-effective entry point for participation in the energy transition. The subscriptions are less expensive than investment in a residential or commercial rooftop solar project, and the project is more direct than utility-scale and sometimes remotely located solar and wind farms.
