SolarBank Plans 5.4-MW Community Energy Project in Southern New York

Sept. 25, 2024
The company plans to locate the ground-mounted community solar in Broome County. It has secured a lease and applied for interconnection.

Distributed energy resource developer SolarBank Corp. aims to develop a 5.4 MW ground-mount solar power project known as the Boyle project on a site located in Broome County, New York.

The company has not only secured a lease over the project site but has also applied for interconnection approval. The project is expected to be eligible for incentives under the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) NY-Sun Program.

The project is predicted to employ agrivoltaics (the dual use of land for solar energy production and agriculture) including sheep grazing with a local agricultural partner. It will be operated as a community solar project upon completion and provide green energy to over 640 homes once operational.

Renters and homeowners will earn credits on their electric bill and save money from the electricity generated by the project, depending on the size and number of panels it possesses. By subscribing to a project, community members will experience the benefits of renewable energy without having to install panels on their home.
