The solar array will help Ford meet its goal of attributing 100% carbon-free and renewable energy to its Michigan manufacturing facilities.

DTE Energy broke ground this weed on a 100-megawatt solar array near Coldwater, MI.

The solar array, expected to be completed in 2026, will help Michigan-based Ford Motor Company reach its goal of attributing 100% carbon-free and renewable energy to its Michigan manufacturing facilities.

Ford has purchased 650 MW of renewable energy from DTE’s voluntary renewable energy program, CleanVision MIGreenPower program, which enables business and residential customers to attribute their electricity use to Michigan-made renewable energy while funding the development of new solar and wind parks.

Ford’s enrollment in MIGreenPower will help the company avoid as much as 600,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually. The company’s goal is to achieve carbon neutrality across its vehicles, manufacturing and supply chain before 2050, and to use 100% carbon-free electricity in its global manufacturing facilities by 2035.

Currently, DTE's renewable energy portfolio consists of 20 wind parks and 34 solar parks located in Michigan. Since 2009, DTE has invested $4.6 billion in its renewable energy infrastructure and aims to invest an additional $4 billion in renewable energy over the next several years.

DTE will introduce three new solar parks in the first half of 2025, with three additional solar parks starting construction. The six parks will total 800 MW, or enough clean energy to power more than 220,000 homes.
