Aemetis Biogas has signed a $27 million agreement with Centuri Holdings to build cleanup facilities for 15 dairy digesters in California’s agriculture-rich Central Valley this year.
The deal will strengthen Aemetis’ goals to construct dairy digesters producing renewable natural gas (RNG) for 50 dairies across the company’s network. Sixteen of those are scheduled to operate in the Aemetis Biogas Central Digester Project near Modesto, California by this summer.
Those projects will include 36 miles of biogas pipeline and a central biogas-to-RNG production facility which will deliver pipeline-worthy gas into the Pacific Gas & Electric utility system.
The biogas systems convert the methane of animal waste into RNG. Environmental experts say that methane emissions are far more harmful than carbon dioxide as a greenhouse gas.
“Our expanding strategic relationship with the experienced team at Centuri ranges from this agreement for biogas equipment to plans for construction management and pipe assembly to build upcoming energy efficiency, carbon sequestration and other projects,” stated Eric McAfee, Chairman and CEO of Aemetis. “We expect that Centuri will play a key role in building Aemetis projects on time and on budget, given their expertise in constructing industrial facilities, large scale gas pipeline projects. and utility electrical systems.”
Aemetis has announced the expansion of its dairy RNG production to generate more than 1 trillion British thermal units of RNG energy capacity from the 50 contracted dairies.
