Pennsylvania-based environmental and infrastructure services firm Weston Solution has partnered with New Fortress Energy to install and operate 150 MW of additional power generation at the Palo Seco power plant in Puerto Rico.
Under the agreement, NFE Power PR and NFEnergia – Puerto Rico subsidiaries of integrated gas-to-power infrastructure firm New Fortress Energy – will supply the 150 MW of dual-fuel generators as well as natural gas to provide temporary power generation at the plant.
In the aftermath of Hurricanes Irma and Maria in 2017, as well as Hurricane Fiona in 2022, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) was tasked with adding 150 MW of power to support Puerto Rico’s grid stabilization at the Palo Seco power plant. After a competitive process, USACE selected Weston as its contractor.
Weston won the task order under its USACE Omaha Rapid Disaster Infrastructure contract. The task order totals more than $470 million over a six-month period of performance.

According to New Fortress Energy, the temporary generators at the plant are expected to enable maintenance and repair work on the island’s power system and energy grid.
“We are pleased to partner with Weston and support this critical mission to improve grid stability in Puerto Rico,” said Wes Edens, Chairman and CEO of New Fortress Energy. “The federal government is providing much-needed resources to Puerto Rico’s recovery and this project will help enable the transition to a cleaner, more affordable and reliable energy system.”
The press releases from the companies doesn't specify which fuels the dual-fuel generators can run under, but those often include diesel, methane gas, propane or a biofuel.
