Global renewable developer Zelestra is continuing to expand its partnerships in the U.S. through power purchase agreements, extending that reach with automotive and clean energy company Tesla across its markets.

Electric vehicle maker and battery storage manufacturer Tesla signed a new 140 MW PPA for the Lumen Farm solar project developed by Zelestra in Texas. Under this announced agreement, Tesla will purchase the entire electricity output from the solar plant located in northeast Texas.

Most renewable PPAs don't power the company directly, but that investment brings more renewable energy onto the overall grid. In this case, the 140 MW injection of clean power into the Texas grid aims to help offset Tesla’s rising local infrastructure needs.

Zelestra states it anticipates the Lumen Farm entering its construction phase in 2027 and achieving full operations by 2029.

Tesla currently operates five standalone complexes across Texas, anchored by an on-site AI supercomputing training capacity of 260 MW. This footprint features its automotive plant and global headquarters in Austin, a battery Megafactory in Houston and its lithium hydroxide refinery in Robstown.

Additionally, the company's robotics factory and semiconductor fabrication plant are currently under construction on its Austin campus. Tesla, outlined in its Q2 earnings chart, plans to scale its Texas footprint beyond 400 MW to triple its AI infrastructure in the state.

This latest deal expands on a 57 MW PPA in the Castilla-La Mancha region, which originated in Spain in 2024. Zelestra, a prominent Spanish developer and operator, signed with Tesla for the output of the Brazatortas I, II and IV solar plants, as Zelestra looks to replicate those development standards for its U.S. venture.

“As a trusted global partner, we can deliver bespoke solutions for clients in multiple geographies. As such, we are excited to expand our relationship with Tesla to the US,” said Zelestra U.S. CEO Phil North in a statement. “We aim to deliver the project and bring the new solar plant online as quickly as possible to support Tesla’s growing energy needs in Texas.”

In June, Zelestra and tech giant Meta announced a PPA for the 180-MW Palmera Solar Plant in Freestone County, Texas, to support Meta’s efforts to add new clean generation capacity to the grid.
