The European Union selected NHOA Group-company Atlante to receive a €22.7 million grant under the CEF Transport funding program, aimed at supporting the development of the European transport infrastructure.

The grant will help fund the installation of 215 EV fastcharging stations – 70 in Italy, 55 each in France and Spain and 35 in Portugal. The funding will enable Atlante to accelerate its rollout plan.

The 215 EV fastcharging stations used in the projects will include more than 700 fastchargers, corresponding to more than 1,400 parking slots electrified with fast and ultra-fast devices. The stations will be powered by 100% renewable energy and have on-site battery storage to manage peak charging hours and on-site or off-site solar energy production. All the charging points will eventually be integrated into the national grid, forming one of the largest virtual power plants worldwide.

The fastcharging stations will be established along the trans-European transport road network (TEN-T). The technology platform for the deployment is being developed by Atlante along with Free2move eSolutions, a joint venture between the NHOA Group and technology provider Stellantis.

“Atlante and the whole NHOA Group have been fostering and pushing the global transition towards clean energy and a more sustainable mobility since its very first days. I am deeply honored for the recognition of the role that Atlante and the whole NHOA Group can play in this important battle and we are ready to take the challenge and leave the world to next generations better than how we found it, one fastcharger at a time,” said Stefano Terranova, Atlante CEO.

The stations will be open to all EVs 24/7. The chargers will be compatible with all charging standards and service providers.

The establishment of a widespread fast charging network is essential for EV drivers to charge their EVs in minutes rather than hours so recharge of EVs is easy.

Atlante’s projects are among the 24 projects that were selected by the EU in the latest Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Facility (AFIF) round. The EU will provide financial support of €292.5 million to these 24 projects.
