J.B. Hunt Transportation Services Inc., a North American supply chain solutions provider, has agreed to purchase 10 battery-electric and three hydrogen fuel cell electric trucks from Nikola Corporation. The 13 zero-emission Class 8 trucks will be stationed at multiple J.B. Hunt facilities throughout Los Angeles and Phoenix and will help the company reduce its carbon emission intensity.
Nikola’s hydrogen-focused brand, HYLA, will supply J.B. Hunt with the necessary hydrogen and fueling infrastructure.
"It's important for us to be at the forefront of new technologies and innovative solutions that have the potential to change the way we move freight," said Nick Hobbs, COO and President of Contract Services at J.B. Hunt. "These zero-emission trucks from Nikola advance our progress towards achieving our ambitious goal to reduce carbon emission intensity through viable solutions."
In the past 10 years, J.B. Hunt has also introduced intermodal services, which prevented nearly 30 million metric tons of CO2 emissions from their transportation operations. This, in combination with the Nikola purchase agreement, is helping the company to reach its goal of reducing its 2019 carbon emission baseline by 32% by 2034.
