Cajun Style EV Fusion: Bojangles adding Charging Infrastructure to Restaurants
Cajun-themed fast food restaurant chain Bojangles, which takes pride in its speed of service, is adding that approach to new electric vehicle charging stations at some of its locations.
The North Carolina-based national chain is partnering with Smart Big Box and Alyath EV to install fast-charging EV stations at the business site. The locations have not been announced in this release, but the projects will include about four charging ports per station.
“Bojangles’ focus is on offering a fast, friendly and convenient experience for our guests, and working with Alyath and Smart Big Box allows us to introduce a new convenience that aligns with evolving customer needs,” said Richard Del Valle, chief information officer at Bojangles. "These top-of-the-line EV chargers will not only improve accessibility for our guests but also help drive an eco-friendlier future.”
Smart Big Box has contracted with Energy and Environmental Design Services as an installer and maintenance partner for all EV chargers for optimal performance and uptime. While the introduction of EV charging stations at Bojangles will start in the fourth quarter this year, they will be largely accessible for customers in 2026.
Bojangles was founded with its first restaurant in Charlotte nearly 50 years ago. The chain, which specializes in southern style chicken, has grown to more than 800 restaurants across the U.S. and Honduras.
The restaurant industry increasingly is pursuing EV charging infrastructure and, sometimes, microgrids through partnerships with developers such as SolMicrogrid and Smart Big Box. Chains which have installed on-site power or community solar include Wendy’s, Chik Fil A and McDonald’s, while in New Orleans individual restaurants adding home power include Afrodisiac NOLA.
