The United States is navigating frosty relationships with Russia and China these days, but cyber probes and attacks from criminals there, perhaps state-sponsored and otherwise, has been happening from there and other dark web refuges for a long, long time. The danger is everywhere and touches everything.
In 2021 alone, the Colonial Pipeline and Los Angeles Department of Water and Power both were targeted by cyber criminals operating overseas. Any industrial, commercial or service company with operational technology using hardware and software to interact with physical assets is in danger from the bad actors in the digital badlands.
These could operate power utilities, facilities management, microgrids and all manner of interconnected energy assets, as well as most other businesses in the modern day. Cyber protection is crucial, and the best defense may be a good offense—being aggressive in understanding the status and vulnerability of assets and mitigating those risks.
A Thursday, March 23 EnergyTech webinar with Dragos, “10 Ways Asset Visibility Builds an Effective OT Cybersecurity Foundation," will offer top ways to create a broader strategy for OT assets. The 2 p.m. (eastern time, 1 p.m. CT and 11 a.m. pacific) will feature Dragos experts Elan Alvey and Markus Mueller offering lessons learned from the field on improving asset visibility and protecting your grid –and energy system or factory, etc.—from the cyber crooks out there who either want to rob via ransomware or just watch the world burn.
The EnergyTech webinar is free and on-demand. You can register here. “10 Ways Asset Visibility Builds an Effective OT Cybersecurity Foundation” is sponsored by Dragos and will offer a Q&A sessions after the presentations by Alvey and Mueller.
