AES selects spinoff Fluence to bid Solar, Energy Storage generation into Western U.S. wholesale energy markets

Energy storage specialist Fluence will deploy its artificial intelligence (AI)-powered bidding software for AES’ portfolio of solar and energy storage projects in the western U.S.

The Fluence IQ Bidding Application recommends bids into daily and hourly auctions for energy and grid services. The software uses advanced forecasting to take advantage of favorable pricing in bidding to wholesale energy markets.

The AES portfolio consists of 1.1 GW in solar and storage capacity.

Fluence was created several years ago as a joint venture between AES and Siemens. As of September 30, 2021, the company has more than 3.6 GW of energy storage deployed or contracted in 30 markets globally, and more than 4.7 GW of wind, solar, and storage assets optimized or contracted in Australia and California.
