Renewable energy firm Canadian Solar has announced that CSI Energy Storage will supply 363 MWh of battery energy products to an Aypa Power project in Texas.

Under the deal, CSI Energy Storage will provide its proprietary battery energy storage solution called SolBank, which is specifically designed and manufactured for utility-scale applications. The Aypa project in Texas is expected to reach commercial operation by the second quarter of 2024.

This supply agreement expands the partnership between CSI Energy Storage and Aypa Power. In February, the companies signed a contract for 487 MWh of energy storage products for Aypa’s Cald project in Southern California.

With this new announcement, CSI Energy Storage overall will be providing a total of 850 MWh of battery energy storage to Aypa Power.

“Aypa Power has one of the most robust pipelines of standalone energy storage projects across North America and CSI Energy Storage is pleased to be a trusted partner as Aypa continues to execute on its late-stage energy storage and hybrid development projects,” said Shawn Qu, Chairman and CEO of Canadian Solar. “We look forward to bringing these two impactful projects online to support the rapidly expanding energy storage market in the United States.”

CSI Energy Storage is part of Canadian Solar’s majority-owned subsidiary CSI Solar. Aypa Power is a Blackstone portfolio company that develops, owns, and operates utility-scale energy storage and hybrid renewable energy projects.

“This supply agreement is a crucial step in our efforts to bring reliable and sustainable energy to California and Texas,” said Moe Hajabed, CEO of Aypa Power. “With our project development and operations expertise combined with Canadian Solar’s leading-edge technology, we can meet the growing demand for energy storage in the U.S. Together, we’ll drive innovation and accelerate the transition to a cleaner, more resilient grid.”

To date, CSI Energy Storage has deployed approximately 2.7 GWh of battery energy storage solutions across the U.S, Canada, the U.K., and China. As of January 31, 2023, CSI Energy Storage’s total pipeline has reached almost 25 GWh.
