ENGIE North America has awarded an engineering, procurement and construction contract for two solar projects in Virginia to IEA Constructors, a subsidiary of Infrastructure and Energy Alternatives (IEA).

The two projects are Powell’s Creek Solar, a 70 MW solar project in Halifax County, and Sunnybrook Solar, a 51 MW (alternating current) solar project in Scottsburg County. Construction of the projects is expected to complete in December 2022.

IEA will handle the EPC requirements of the $66 million Powell’s Creek Solar project, including all the mechanical, civil and electrical work. ENGIE will provide the 176,000 solar modules, which will be installed at the facility.

Meanwhile, at the $43 million Sunnybrook Solar project, IEA will install more than 106,000 owner-furnished modules and the balance-of-system EPC construction.

“We are excited to once again partner with ENGIE, a global leader in clean energy transition,” said Joe Broom, IEA’s Senior Vice President of Solar Construction Operations. “We are proud to support the State of Virginia’s commitment to investing in clean energy technologies, including utility-scale solar developments capable of supporting the growing requirements of the electricity grid for years to come.”

Virginia has more than 1,400 MW of installed solar capacity and ranks as the fourth largest energy producer in the US.
