CastleRock Green Energy intends to build two biofuel production facilities with 20 million gallon per year capacity in the area of Shelton, Washington.
The investment was made possible partly due to the Inflation Reduction Act, which incentivizes companies on investing in the production of low-carbon and renewable fuels.
Shelton was selected as a place to build the facilities because of the proximity to high concentrations of major industrial timber owners. The firm will deploy Ensyn’s proprietary technology, known as RTP, which converts woody, non-food biomass into fuel and chemicals. The technology has already been deployed at eight production facilities in the U.S. and Canada.
The renewable fuel produced will help reduce carbon emissions by approximately 85%.
The facilities will provide low carbon heating oil to Seattle district energy customers and displace traditional fossil fuels in use currently. This will eliminate 82,000 metric tons of carbon emissions annually.
The announcement by CastleRock did not include a timeline for the projects. Once construction begins, however, it would reportedly employ more than 250 people to build the biofuel production plant.
