SSE Renewables’ Solar and Battery division has appointed Spanish developer Grupotec as the civil contractor for its 31 MW solar project at Littleton Pastures near Evesham in Worcestershire. The 77-acre site is SSE’s first solar project, and it’s set to be operational in 2024.

The solar project is part of SSE’s larger plans to invest up to $50 billion USD in low-carbon technology over the next decade that will create over 1,000 new green jobs each year.

“Connecting more renewable power to the Grid is vital for the UK’s energy security and net-zero targets. We are looking forward to delivering more solar and battery projects across the UK, Ireland, and Europe in the years to come,” said Richard Cave-Bigley, Director of Solar and Battery at SSE Renewables.

Littleton Pastures is SSE Renewables’ third solar and battery project under construction, including two battery sites underway in Salisbury and Ferrybridge. All three projects serve to advance the Government’s “Powering Up Britain” energy security strategy, which plans to increase the United Kingdom’s solar power capacity to 70GW by 2035.
