Geurbet Installs 2.4 MW Solar Farm to Power Pharmaceutical Ingredient Manufacturing Site in Dublin

Feb. 19, 2024
The solar farm will produce enough power to cover 18% of the company’s total electricity requirements annually – the equivalent of powering 500 households

Geurbet, a global pharmaceutical company, has commissioned its first solar farm at its Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) manufacturing site in Dublin, Ireland.

Constructed by Enerpower by Greenvolt on land owned by Geurbet, the 2.4 MW solar farm is producing enough power to cover 18% of the company’s total electricity requirements annually – the equivalent of powering 500 households.

During the peak summer months, the solar farm also has the potential to power the plant without any additional electricity from the grid during daylight hours.

“At Geurbet, our purpose is ‘building lasting relationships that enable people to live better,’ and preserving our planet is a foundational part of that purpose,” said David Hale, CEO of Geurbet Group. “In 2023, we made a commitment… to reduce our carbon emissions by 27.5% for Scope 1 and 2, and 13.5% for Scope 3 by 2032.”

Geurbet entered a Corporate Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Enerpower where Geurbet has committed to purchasing the solar PV electrical power from the solar farm for the next 20 years.

“Geurbet has a long history of innovation, growth, and service in the pharmaceutical industry. This new Corporate PPA will produce renewable electricity for our API manufacturing site and is a significant development in our long-term strategy to significantly reduce carbon emissions at the site,” said David Forde, Site Lead at Geurbet Dublin.
