Ingka Group’s Ingka Investments and Apex Clean Energy have collaborated for a 16.4 MW lithium-ion battery storage project, Cameron Storage in Cameron County, to support and increase the reliability of the Texas power grid.

The project, co-located with Ingka Investments’ 165 MW 55-turbine Cameron Wind farm, will commence operations soon. While Powin serves as the equipment vendor, Worley will provide engineering, procurement, and construction services for the project.

“Utility-scale energy storage unlocks the full potential of clean power to decarbonize our economy while providing increased reliability and certainty for our electric grid,” said Ken Young, Apex Clean Energy CEO.

The project is part of Ingka Group’s goal to achieve the IKEA commitment of being climate-positive by 2030. The company helps achieve this by switching to renewable energy, transitioning to zero-emission home deliveries, offering circular services, and more.

Ingka Investments has invested and committed more than $3.75 billion into renewable energy projects under a $6.96 billion initiative to support 100% renewable energy consumption across the IKEA value chain and beyond.

“Going forward, we aim to invest in a mix of wind, solar, and energy storage,” said Peter van der Poel, Managing Director at Ingka Investments. “Investing in all three technologies will help to provide renewable energy during more hours of the year and optimize the use of our grid connections.”
