Aggreko Hits Sustainability Target at Los Angeles Service Center with 100% Solar Power
On-site power and cooling supplier Aggreko is celebrating the completion of its 82-kW on-site solar photovoltaic (PV) system at its service center in Los Angeles, California.
The new solar site can generate enough lower carbon power to meet the facility’s annual energy demand--marking the first time an Aggreko service center in the U.S. will meet 100% of its annual power needs by renewable generation, the company said. Aggreko states that this shift to an entirely renewable, net-zero energy supply at the L.A. service center supports its continued mission towards energy sustainability.
The facility, which remains grid-tied, achieves financial payback through retail-rate bill credits for all surplus energy during peak sunlight hours sent back into the local grid as part of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power Net Energy Metering Program.
These localized logistics hubs, Aggreko adds, operate as both maintenance depots and emergency deployment bases. The service centers directly assist infrastructure providers, corporate enterprises and government agencies when severe weather triggers equipment failures or primary system power outages.
The U.K.-based company also specializes in temperature-controlled heavy-duty equipment to heat and cool environments when permanent systems break down or undergo maintenance and are unable to handle sudden spikes in demand. Unlike traditional residential HVAC units, these machines are designed to endure harsh outdoor environments and massive thermal loads found in heavy industrial sectors such as factories and data centers.
Aggreko outlined in its 2025 sustainability report that over $500 million was invested directly into lower-carbon technologies, temporary solar arrays, hybrid packages and battery storage solutions. The company’s operational facilities now source 63% of their electricity generation from renewables.
Those on-site solar locations include the completion of a 100-kW solar facility in St. Louis, Missouri, an 87.3 kW system in Bridgeport, N.J. and solar panels at its New Orleans location last year, which generate 258 MWh of the 279 MWh the building typically uses annually.
As for the new 82 kW on-site distributed energy system, it’s projected to save the L.A. service center $12,630 in annual utility costs, according to a release. Over the next 20 years, the L.A. installation could offset an estimated 1,968 tons of carbon emissions.
“With on-site solar like the system at our Los Angeles service center and several others, we can meet the energy needs of our customers while lowering our costs and carbon emissions,” said Todd Aston, vice president of sustainability, North America at Aggreko, in a statement.
Aston adds that Aggreko’s recent modernization initiatives reflect the company’s commitment to advancing engineered power solutions. In 2024, Aggreko secured a multi-year agreement with Formula E events, deploying its advanced battery technology to help the World Championship series cut emissions by 45% by 2030.
