Standard Solar and U.S. Light Energy have completed an 11.52 MW combined solar project for the Tri-County Energy Consortium members in New York.
This project will enable over 28 municipalities and school districts in Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence counties in New York to reduce their electricity costs and expand the clean energy portfolio of the state.
“Members of the Consortium will collectively save between $400,000 to $500,000 annually from the arrays,” said John Warneck, Executive Director of the Tri-County Energy Consortium.
U.S. Light Energy CEO Mark Richardson said, “This project’s success is underscored by the variety of challenges the team had to overcome, including changes in New York’s solar policy and the pandemic. Kudos to the team and the Consortium for persevering and pushing forward a great project helping them create a pathway to achieve their renewable energy goals.”

Warneck agreed that the development of the projects was a challenging three-year process.
The $7.6 million project received more than $1 million from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) through NY-Sun initiative to advance the scale-up of solar and make solar energy accessible to businesses, homes and communities.
The participating school districts and local governments will secure savings on electric bills, which will be in proportion to the percentage of electricity they use out of the combined electricity usage of all participants.
